The history of Burkhardt/Freeman begins with the F.T. Burkhardt Company founded in August of 1924 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Fredrick Burkhardt was a writing paper broker who had considerable knowledge in proprietary water marked writing papers and arranged specialty writing grades for companies such as F.W. Woolworth, Westinghouse Electric, etc. The firm expanded in to other school and commercial papers, erasable papers as well as specialty cover stocks for wire bound books.
F.T. Burkhardt was acquired by Freeman Associates, Inc in August of 1978. Freeman Associates specialized in the proprietary distribution of vinyl casting and other release coated papers and films used in the transfer of screen printed images to T-shirts and other items of clothing.
Today Burkhardt/Freeman, Inc. has developed in to a leading supplier of hot and cold peel papers and films utilized internationally in the heat transfer industry under the brand names of Ultra Strip, PolyStrip and Glitterstrip.
